Electronic Books

The Furr Library has approximately 200 electronic books that can be accessed from any computer in the school network.

To view a list of these books, click on the link to the left under the photograph of the library for the Furr On-line Catalogue. Type in the letters, EBK (the abbreviation for electronic book), and click on "Call Number."

To view a book, click on the title of the book in the catalogue, and scroll down to the words, "Bibliographic record display," at the bottom of the page above the "View MARC Record" button. Click on the words, "Bibliographic record display." This opens the Net Library page for that eBook. Click on the words, "View this eBook," to open the book.

Welcome, teachers!

General Library Policies for the 2007/2008 School Year

· Daily library hours are from 7:30a.m. – 4:10p.m. (After school hours can be arranged as needed.)

· Students must have their School I.D. and a library permit with the students name on it and clearly signed by the teacher in order to use the library. Additionally, a student’s library record must be clear before they can check-out a book or use a computer. Students are only to be sent to the library to work on assignments or to return or check out books. The purpose of the students library visit must be clearly stated on the permit.

· Teachers should send no more than FIVE STUDENTS PER PERIOD, unless they are accompanied by the teacher. Students will be turned away, if there is a class or other scheduled activity in the library or if there are a large number of unaccompanied students already present.

· The library can be reserved on a first come first served basis. This can be done in the library on the sign-up calendar at the circulation desk. When signing-up, a teacher should make clear their plans and requirements for library use. If a teacher would like the librarian to teach a class in research, MLA formatting, library usage, etc, at least 48 hours notice must be given.

· Teachers MUST remain with their class during the entire period while using the library.

· SUBSTITUTES are not to bring students to the library.

· Like students, teachers are responsible for all materials checked-out of the library. All books and other materials must be turned-in by the end of the school year.

· Students can check out one book at a time. Magazines and reference books may not be checked out by students.

· This website can be used to access many online services, such as the online catalogue, HISD online resources, E-books, etc, as well as information about the library, new books, events, and other things of interest both to students and teachers. The library website can be accessed through the school website, as well as by going directly to http://furrlibrary.blogspot.com/ . Additionally, many computers in the computer labs use the library website as their homepage.
